Department Manager – Design & Build Nigeria
Exciting Leadership Opportunity with a Leading Contractor/Developer
We are currently seeking an experienced Department Manager – Design & Build to join a reputable contractor/developer in Nigeria. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled professional to lead and structure a growing department, overseeing design coordination, project management, and technical compliance on large-scale developments.
Our Client
Ping International Recruitment are partnered with one of the largest main contractors in the region to help source a project leader for a new scheme. This is a permanent long term Head Office Based position. Our client are a recognised brand with an excellent background in infrastructure and buildings projects. They employ over 3000 people and employ multiple nationalities.
The Role
As the Department Manager, you will act as a Client-Side Consultant / Project Manager, overseeing design development and ensuring seamless coordination between various design disciplines and appointed consultants. Although this is a role employed with a Main contractor. You will also be responsible for:
- Managing and leading the Design & Build department, developing its structure and processes.
- Reviewing and coordinating designs from appointed consultants to ensure feasibility, functionality, and compliance.
- Leading technical meetings with consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
- Evaluating materials for quality, suitability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensuring alignment between designs, budgets, and project requirements.
- Acting as the key liaison between contractors, consultants, and senior management.
Key Requirements:
- Strong experience in both design and construction, with a background in contracting and consultancy.
- Proven ability to lead and structure a Design & Build department.
- Expertise in design coordination, technical reviews, and materials selection.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in Nigeria or West Africa would be a plus but is not essential.
The salary / package
The position will pay a NET salary of around 10-12k USD per month plus housing, transport, flight allowance, health and life insurances. Annual leave of around 30 days paid is on offer with the possibility of additional days on an unpaid basis.
